USA Neurosurgery Partnership with The Gambia

H.E. Momodou Lamin Bah, Ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia to the United States of America, on Tuesday, March 25 received at the Embassy Dr. Gupta Saksham, a United States Neurosurgeon who was at the Embassy to brief the Ambassador about their upcoming medical trip to The Gambia in June, this year.

It would be recalled that last year in September, Dr. Saksham traveled to The Gambia with a team of doctors and stayed for one week and performed five (5) operations at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) with their Gambian counterpart, Dr. John Jabang.

During their one week stay, they paid for the care of the patients that they helped operate on and depending on their extent of resection, several of the patients may have a durable, lifelong cure of their disease. The team also brought approximately $20,000 USD worth of specialized tools. This would be the second come back which would be done with a bigger team that will stay for two weeks to perform operations with Dr. John Jabang and other health personnel at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.
