Embassy officials visited a Restaurant owned by a Gambian in Maryland

The Deputy Head of Mission (DHM) at the Embassy of The Gambia in the United States of America, Hon. Yakuba Drammeh, accompanied by other Diplomatic staff of the Embassy paid a courtesy call to one Mr. Hatib Joof, a prominent Gambian restaurant owner (Mansa Kunda) situated at Takoma Park in Maryland.

The courtesy call is in response to an earlier visit undertaken by Mr. Joof to the Ambassador and other Diplomatic staff to give an overview on matters relating to operations and cuisine of his restaurant. He further solicited the Embassy’s cooperation and partnership in showcasing and selling Gambian cuisine across the United States.

The visit was meant to confirm the capabilities and services rendered by the restaurant in preparation for the high-level Embassy Chefs Challenge slated for March 7th, 2024 at the iconic Union Station in Washington D.C. The event would be held under the aegis of Events DC, an office under the Government of the District of Columbia.

The outcome of the officials’ visit to the restaurant was a successful one given what was seen – excellent food preparations and the variety of Gambian cuisine. We are expecting about 2000 guests, amongst them representatives of media institutions to showcase the event to the greater American population.
